The Blood-Lust New World: A Review of Rhapsody's Antics

Rhapsody is a fantasy classic with a plethora of skills - musician, healer, fighter, pyromancer, and even a former hooker. She is the heroine supreme in her world, but for those who dare to venture into the depths of this series, it may be a journey that will leave them feeling drained. Every time Rhapsody meets someone new, including NPCs, she undergoes an exhausting transformation that makes one cringe.

From weak trembling knees to a painfully lengthy description of her appearance, every encounter with a man triggers a reaction in her trousers and ends with a vague fantasy involving her hair. It's as if this 17-year-old girl is perpetually stuck on the brink of puberty, unsure what she wants or where she belongs.

As Rhapsody leaves her family to chase after a boy and embarks on an underground epic journey with monster-men Achmed and Grunthor, one can't help but feel that she's only there for her own gratification. Her beauty level increases from 60 to god-mode, but it does little to redeem the dullness of this period.

The plot may be interesting enough to keep readers hooked (at least until they reach Achmed), but the punishment one faces in reading about Rhapsody's antics outweighs any benefits. When the main character becomes more of a nuisance than an endearing protagonist, it reflects poorly on the author.

However, there are aspects of this book that are worth more than one star. Grunthor, for instance, is pretty likable in his gruff ogre way, and Achmed, a central protagonist, is reasonably awesome. Even Rhapsody's constant nagging fails to detract from the overall charm of their journey.

Ultimately, The Blood-Lust New World is a tale of fantasy and adventure that may appeal to those who enjoy excessive descriptions of characters' appearances and tedious transformations. But for those looking for more substance in their storytelling, it may be a series better left unexplored.
